Praying Through Worship

Praying Through Worship

Worship is sometimes my favorite part of going to church. Especially at Sandals! The worship team there does such a wonderful job and sometimes I just lose myself in the music.

On January 5th, just after giving birth, we decided that we would attend church with our family. It didn’t go as well as I thought it would. So, the next weekend Bryan and I stayed home and watched worship and Pastor Matt’s message from our bed. One of the songs they sang was Another In The Fire by Hillsong United. And it brought me to tears! But it also made me realize that, through this song and others like it, I am being reminded that He is always with me.

I wanted to post something about some of the songs that have helped us get through this time in our lives. I’ve included a small portion of the lyrics that really speak to us and a link to a video where you can listen to the song.

Another In The Fire by Hillsong United

“There is another in the fire
Standing next to me
There is another in the waters
Holding back the seas
And should I ever need reminding
What power set me free
There is a grave that holds no body
And now that power lives in me”

This song is a reminder that even when we’re in the fire or when we feel like the ocean is going to collapse on top of us He will always be with us; no matter where we are.

Rescue by Lauren Daigle

“I hear you whisper underneath your breath
I hear your SOS, your SOS

I will send out an army to find you
In the middle of the darkest night
It’s true, I will rescue you
I will never stop marching to reach you
In the middle of the hardest fight
It’s true, I will rescue you”

I mentioned before that I was having a hard time praying and that all I had were tears. So many people told me that he still heard my prayers through those tears. This song tells me that He hears me even when I’m quiet. He may not be rescuing me from addiction or something life-ruining, but he will rescue me from this dark place I find myself in right now.

Eye of the Storm by Ryan Stevenson

“In the eye of the storm
You remain in control
And in the middle of the war
You guard my soul
You alone are the anchor
When my sails are torn
Your love surrounds me
In the eye of the storm”

It feels right now like we are in the middle of a tornado and we’re just being thrown around. But He is always in control. He calms every storm and He will calm this one.

Blessings by Laura Story

“‘Cause what if your blessings come through raindrops
What if Your healing comes through tears
What if a thousand sleepless nights are what it takes to know You’re near
What if trials of this life are Your mercies in disguise”

To call this time a ‘trial’ is an understatement, in my opinion. But that’s what it is. However, I know that He is going to use this trial for good.

Do It Again by Elevation Worship

“I’ve seen You move, come move the mountains
And I believe, I’ll see You do it again”

The nurses call a stay in the NICU a roller coaster, but this song gave our stay a new name and meaning. It’s a mountain and we can’t move it, but He can.

Let Them See You by JJ Weeks Band

“Let them see you, In me
Let them hear you when I speak
Let them feel you when I sing
Let them see you
Let them see you in me”

I want people to know how great my God is and the kind of miracles he makes happen. I want people to see Him through me during this time. I want them to hear Him in my words and see Him through the way I live my life and trust in Him.

Rivers by The Ascent

“You’re making rivers, here in the desert
Up from the ashes, a song of hope will rise
You’re making rivers, here in the desert
Out of the wasteland, You bring us back to life”

We are in the desert. This time in our lives in slow-moving and makes us feel like the end is never coming. But He is providing ‘water’ for us right now. He is making it possible to get through this desert.

Great Are You Lord by All Sons & Daughters

“It’s Your breath in our lungs
So we pour out our praise
We pour out our praise
It’s Your breath in our lungs
So we pour out our praise to You only”

This one is all Bryan. Nellie-Anne’s biggest struggle right now is her breathing. We fully believe that when she does breathe on her own, without a machine, she won’t really be doing it alone. He breathed life into her and He will do it again to get her off those machines. We will praise for her.

Symphony by Switch

“And even in the madness
There is peace
Drownin’ out the voices
All around me
Through all of this chaos
You are writing a symphony”

This song has come on every single time I’ve gotten in the car to go see Nell or when I’ve left the hospital after seeing her. There really is chaos all around us right now. But He is going to create something beautiful out of it.

*BONUS SONG*

When I Pray For You by Dan + Shay

“I pray you love like your momma
And you forgive just like she does
‘Cause when this life knocks you down
I hope you get down on your knees
‘Cause that’s what I do, that’s what I do
When I pray for you
Oh, when I pray for you”

This is the song that Bryan wants to be their song. And I don’t think there is a more perfect song. Our first dance song is by Dan + Shay, so I think this is more than fitting for Bryan and Nell. **My dad and I also have a song – Butterfly Kisses by Bob Carlisle. We danced to this at my wedding.**
